Maitland Launch Day - August 21, 2010

The 24th Annual Maitland Launch Day celebrated the historic launch of the W.D. Lawrence, at that time the largest wooden ship ever built in Canada.

Events centered around the Lawrence House Museum in Maitland and included costumed re-enactors, a Victorian Procession, many interesting displays and the shore-side launch of a 17 foot replica of the ship.

To see details of the model, hover your mouse over the photo and click wherever the pointer changes to a hand (five hidden pictures in all...)

The Victorian Procession through the heart of the the historic Village of Maitland... More demos, displays and music this year at the Museum Grounds...
The always popular Hay Wagon Ride... plus new this year - a petting zoo!
And as always demos & displays by local artisans as well as museum representatives.

MDDA - The Maitland & District Development Association is a non-profit group operated by volunteers from our area.  Supported over the years by organizations such as the Hants Regional Development Authority, the Municipality of East Hants and their own fundraising efforts as well,  the group has undertaken many local projects to date:

The extensive restoration of the Old Selmah Schoolhouse and it's conversion to their own Art Gallery 215, involved both the MDDA and many local supporters.   The group has also carried out major improvements to their park in the heart of Maitland, Dawson Dowell Park and tidal look-off.  Additionally, they organize the well-known annual Maitland Christmas Festival held in and around the village.  In addition to these very visible projects the MDDA has also created and maintains two websites, one for the Heritage District itself and one for the Selma Art Gallery.
